Hike to Sierra Bermeja’s Pinsapo Forest (Nov 20th)

€0.00

Step into the heart of the Sierra Bermeja to explore the world’s largest Pinsapo forest growing on peridotite rocks. This unique geological formation is home to the rare Pinsapo fir, a living relic from the Tertiary period that has thrived here for over 10 million years. These towering trees, reaching up to 30 meters, create a dense canopy that supports a critical biodiversity hotspot, hosting numerous endemic plant and animal species that exist nowhere else on Earth. The forest's survival is vital for water regulation, soil stability, and preserving a unique ecosystem that has adapted to these specific mineral-rich soils.

The hiking route offers a flexible adventure, ranging from a short 1.5 km linear path to a more immersive 6.5 km circular trail that winds through the ancient trees. As you ascend, the dense forest gradually opens up to reveal breathtaking panoramic vistas. Upon reaching the summit, you are rewarded with a spectacular dual perspective: on one side, the dramatic contrast of the Strait of Gibraltar and the coast of Morocco, and on the other, a sweeping view of the iconic Spanish white villages nestled in the valley below (visible clearly on sunny days). This journey is not just a walk, but a chance to connect with a piece of living history and witness the stunning convergence of mountains, sea, and human heritage.

Transportation Information: From previous experience it is very hard to order a taxi or uber from the finish point. Carpooling together or arranging a group transfer is best.
