Welcome to samurai swordsmanship! Japanese "Kendo" is a widely practiced martial art throughout Japan. It began as samurai warriors' customary swordsmanship exercises using bamboo swords and armour. In this special introductory session, children will experience the fundamentals of Kendo, while learning the manners, discipline, and courtesy behind every movement.

What to Expect:

During this hands-on Kendo experience, children will be introduced to the basics and spirit of traditional Japanese swordsmanship in a safe and supportive environment.

Participants will learn dojo etiquette, basic footwork and movements, how to handle a bamboo sword (shinai), and the importance of respect, focus, teamwork, and sportsmanship within Kendo practice. Depending on the progress and comfort of the group, children may also have the opportunity to try on traditional Kendo armour (bogu) and participate in simple practice exercises with partners.
