Tuesday ECA Kendo (Age 10+)

€680.00

Welcome to samurai swordsmanship! Japanese "Kendo" is a widely practiced martial art throughout Japan. It began as samurai warriors' customary swordsmanship exercises using bamboo swords and armour. In this class, children will learn the techniques of swordsmanship, Japanese manners, and courtesy behind every movement.

What to Expect:

Over the course of 9 sessions, children will be introduced to the fundamentals and spirit of Kendo, the traditional Japanese art of swordsmanship.

The first four sessions focus on the foundations of practice: learning the rules of the dojo, discipline, safety, basic movements, and the importance of respect, teamwork, and sportsmanship. In the following sessions, children will begin wearing traditional Kendo armor (bogu) and gradually move into controlled sparring practice.

Through these sessions, participants will build confidence with the basic techniques and etiquette of Kendo, while developing focus, awareness, and respect for their training partners.

In the final session, the children will take part in a friendly match competition, followed by a closing ceremony where they will receive a certificate of completion to mark their achievement.
