Trekking Experience: Laguna Garzón & Mirador del Bonete (Nov 15th)
Get ready to explore one of Uruguay’s most stunning natural treasures — the Laguna Garzón and Mirador del Bonete!
This immersive trekking experience invites you to connect deeply with nature while discovering the rich biodiversity of Uruguay’s Atlantic coast.
Guided by Juan Martín Rodríguez, a specialist in natural area management and conservation, we’ll journey through trails surrounded by native flora, dunes, and wetlands — uncovering the fascinating ecosystems that make this area so unique.
A gentle, relaxing walk suitable for all levels, perfect for exploring the area and learning about the local flora and wildlife. 🌿🦜
What You’ll Discover:
Laguna Garzón: Located between the departments of Rocha and Maldonado, this brackish coastal lagoon connects periodically with the Atlantic Ocean through a natural sandbar. Its dynamic environment provides an ideal habitat for fish, crustaceans, and a wide variety of bird species.
Wildlife Observation: During the trek, we’ll have the chance to spot emblematic species such as the Chilean flamingo, black-necked swan, crab-eating gull, herons, ducks, and migratory birds that visit the area as a resting and feeding site. It’s possible that during this time of year, whales may be spotted! 🐋✨
Flora & Landscape: The trails cross sections of monte psamófilo — native coastal vegetation adapted to sandy soils. This landscape blends rolling hills, dunes, and vast coastal plains, creating a perfect balance between beauty and ecology.
Mirador del Bonete (Bonete Viewpoint): Our route also includes a visit to this breathtaking panoramic point, offering spectacular views of the surrounding environment and its remarkable birdlife — a moment to reflect on the importance of biodiversity conservation.
