Join us for a family firefly night walk!
The lights of fireflies offer us one of nature's most beautiful spectacles! This phenomenon is only visible in May and June, during the insects' mating season, when males and females use their lights to communicate.
On this family nature walk at night, we'll take you to see the fireflies in the forested area of Monserrate. Guided by Ana Rocha, who specialises in nocturnal walks in and around Sintra, you'll learn more about these fascinating bioluminescent creatures while awakening your senses to the sounds, aromas, and textures of the forest, accompanied by the moon and the stars.
The walk will take place mostly in the dark. Flashlights may be used when necessary, but we encourage participants to keep their use to a minimum so as not to disturb the fireflies.
For safety reasons, parents should remain close to their children throughout the walk and ensure they do not wander off on their own.

Date: Sunday, June 14th
Meeting time: 8:45 p.m.
Meeting Point: Parking Lot of Monserrate (in front of the main entrance)
Schedule: 9:00 p.m — 10:15 / 10:30 pm
Transportation: Not included. Please organise your own transport there & back (it’s a 15-minute drive from the EC) or talk to your Experience Curator by Thursday 11th at the latest should you want Boundless to organise transport for you at an additional cost.
What’s Included:
Guided walk with Ana Rocha (and translated by Manon, as Ana does not speak English)
Nature interpretation and firefly observation
Hot tea for adults at the end of the activity
What to bring:
Closed shoes suitable for walking/hiking with good adherence to uneven / mountain terrain
Warm jacket or sweatshirt (preferably dark-coloured)
Comfortable trousers (preferably dark-coloured),
Water
Small snack
Portable cups for your tea at the end of the walk :-)
Difficulty Level: Easy - Level 1
Distance: Approx 4 km
Participation:
Minimum age: 2 years old
Minimum Participants Required: 10
Maximum Participants: 25 (currently divided into 12 adult & 13 child tickets)
Terms & Conditions:
Each individual must purchase an individual ticket to secure their spot.
Additional Dates: If an experience is fully booked, it will be marked as an "Informational Post." If demand exceeds the minimum participant requirement, we will make every effort to coordinate an additional date with our partner.
No Date Changes: If the event sells out and we add another date, families will not be able to switch dates. They must attend on their original booking date.
