Discover Sintra’s “Fairy Forest” — From Capuchos to Peninha (Nov. 11)
Get ready for a peaceful morning hike through one of Sintra’s most enchanting and lesser-known areas, home to the mystical Fairy Forest, the historic Capuchos Convent, and the breathtaking Peninha Sanctuary.
We’ll begin our journey at Capuchos Convent, a small 16th-century monastery built in perfect harmony with the surrounding nature. You’ll have time to explore this serene site and soak in its unique atmosphere before heading into the forest.
From there, we’ll follow shaded trails through the Fairy Forest, where soft light filters through the trees, creating a magical and tranquil setting. Along the way, we’ll pass viewpoints overlooking the Atlantic Ocean and the Cascais coastline, and even come across the Tholos do Monge, a hidden Neolithic monument tucked among the trees.
Our hike will end at the Peninha Sanctuary, perched high on the mountain with panoramic views stretching over Cabo da Roca and the Sintra-Cascais region. On misty days, this mystical site takes on an even more otherworldly beauty.
