A Family Coast to Canvas Experience & Early Magusto Celebration (Nov. 1) 🎨🌿

from €0.00

What if a few mineral treasures from the Sintra coast could be transformed into a piece of art your family takes home?

In this creativity-fuelled family experience, our afternoon begins at Praia Pequena, then takes us into the studio of locally-based artist Franka Struys, and finishes with food and stories for a taste of one of Portugal's most cherished autumn traditions: Magusto.

We'll first meet at the beach and explore its natural colours, textures and treasures, collecting small amounts of stones, rocks and natural minerals that will later become part of your family’s very own colour palette.

Then we'll take our discoveries back to Franka's studio in Almoçageme, where you’ll transform them into a collaborative artwork. As a family, you'll share ideas, choose materials, and learn how to sand them, with each family creating an original piece on canvas to take home as a little keepsake of the Portuguese coast and your afternoon together. No artistic experience needed: just curiosity, imagination, and a willingness to get a little earthy! ;-)

To end our afternoon in true Boundless community style, we'll slow down by discovering the story of São Martinho and celebrating Magusto together: a traditional Portuguese autumn gathering centred around sharing and friendship, alongside roasted chestnuts … and água-pé! (a traditional, lightly fermented drink made from the grapes left after wine pressing) 🌰🍷

Meet Franka: Franka is a Dutch artist (painter) and mother of 4 who has been living in Portugal for almost 30 years. Her work has a deep connection to the landscapes of Sintra and Portugal's Atlantic coast, and her inspiration stems from the natural world around her, where she creates art using and transforming pigments, textures, forms, and minerals from, quite literally, the earth itself!

Please note that the beach collection is an optional, informal, and weather-dependent part of the experience. Parents/guardians are fully responsible for supervising their children during this time, as this portion of the experience is not covered by insurance.

Minimum participants: 12
Maximum participants: 20

What to Bring: Weather-appropriate and practical clothing that can get dirty, comfortable shoes (the road down to the beach is a dirt road and not accessible with strollers), a small towel, water.
