Hike & Swim at Agios Stefanos: The Cave Chapel Experience
Prepare for a breathtaking morning as we hike to one of the most remarkable and remote locations on Syros — the cave chapel of Agios Stefanos. Tucked into the cliffs just above the sea near the village of Galissas, this tiny Catholic chapel is carved directly into the rock and has been named one of the top 20 most beautiful chapels in the world.
What to Expect:
Scenic Coastal Hike – Begin your adventure with a moderately challenging 1.6 km trail along a rocky, unshaded path. The hike rewards you with jaw-dropping views of the Aegean and the stunning white chapel built into the cave.
A Sacred Hidden Gem – Discover the serene beauty of Agios Stefanos, a chapel steeped in local legend. According to tradition, it was built by a fisherman in gratitude for surviving a dangerous encounter with a sea monster.
Swim & Refresh – After taking in the views and the chapel, enjoy a refreshing swim in the nearby crystal-clear waters. This unforgettable experience is the perfect reward for your hike!
Important Note: Bring a swimsuit, towel, and a change of dry clothes. Participants must be dry before boarding the taxis for the return trip.

Trail Duration: Approx. 1 hour (1.6 km)
Difficulty Level: Moderately challenging – rocky path with no shade, the return is uphill
What to Bring:
• Water & snacks
• Sunscreen & sun protection
• Swimsuit, towel & change of dry clothes
• Long pants or leggings, sturdy boots or training shoes
